Celebrating William and Kate’s royal wedding day

-

Ten years ago, Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot at Westminster Abbey in London – and schools in the Horsham district celebrated in style on April 29, 2011. At Trafalgar Community Infant School, everyone got into the patriotic spirit with a royal wedding breakfast.

All the children and staff were invited as if they were guests at the wedding and were allowed to wear their best clothes and hats to school for the day.

They had a variety of royal duties, including making celebratory plates and writing invitations.

The whole school then met on the playground, which was decorated with Union Flags, banners and balloons for a wedding breakfast. The meal included wedding cake, heartshaped sandwiches and child-friendly champagne, and before they ate, the children stood for the National Anthem.

At Farlington School, there was a sumptuous tea party where pupils and staff were dressed in red, white and blue and morris dancers performed.

Each girl had decorated a pennantshaped piece of material during the Easter holiday and these were strung together to make festive bunting, which fluttered in the breeze above the spread.
