The Boars triumph in trip to Ashtead
Roffey CC recorded a relatively comfortable 21-run win against Surrey outfit Ashtead CC in a thorough pre-season examination on Saturday.
And Boars skipper Matt Davies was delighted to say: “All of our batters spent time in the middle, which was positive and it was a good work out for our bowlers, too and gave some first team experience to some of our younger players.”
After Roffey won the toss, Theo Rivers lead the way with a top-scoring 59. He was well supported by the evergreen Rohit Jagota with 42 and Davies (48), with useful supporting runs down the order
Chasing 250, Ashtead opener – captain Ben Geddes - also started well, but when he was dismissed for 67, although there were useful subsequent contributions, apart from Tom Homes’ 42, Roffey remained in control with regular wickets.
And, from 142-6 there was no way back for the hosts, Harnoop Kalsi finishing with bowling figures of 4-25.
Post-match, Davies added: “Harnoop was outstanding with the ball and we are all excited to see what he can bring to the side this year.
“We were missing first team regulars George (Fleming) and Barney (Luke Barnard), which made the bowling and fielding effort even more pleasing.
“We have a big month of cricket coming up and can’t wait to get started!”
