Hurst through to Div 1 Shield final

-

Billingshurst secured their place in the SCFL Division 1 Supplementary Shield final with a 4-0 victory away at Seaford Town in the semis on Saturday.

The first clear chance fell to Jahobi Maher who found himself one-on-one with the Seaford keeper Jack Webb but clipped his shot over the bar.

Jahobi Maher opened the scoring on 22 minutes when his shot from 20-yards went under the keeper.

The second half showed a much more dominant Hurst performance. The pressure took its toll when Archie Goddard was brought down by Webb for a penalty which he duly converted.

By the 70th minute, he’d doubled his tally after he latched on to a flicked header.

Hurst completed an excellent second period when, on 88 minutes, Maher got his second from the penalty spot.

Hurst will face Midhurst in the final on Wednesday, May 17 at Broadbridge Heath’s ground, 7.30pm kick-off.

Hurst manager Lee Spickett said: “(I’m) super proud of the boys and pleased for everyone behind the scenes at the club to reach a final.

“We’ve worked hard for 15 months to stabilise the club and put a marker down. We turned up, didn’t bottle it, matched them with work rate and were clinical in front of goal.”

Upper Beeding and TD Shipley both missed out on places in the Division 2 Shield final.

The Yellows were beaten 4-2 by Rustington on Saturday while the Dragons lost 7-6 to Montpelier Villa on penalties after a goalless 90 minutes.
