Seniors rolling along very well

Mannings Heath’s seniors completed their second success against the ladies in less than a week as they claimed the Rolling Pin 317-312 in aggregate Stableford points.

Having won the club’s inter-section trophy, the MJLS shield, they claimed a narrow win in the 10-a-side head-tohead event despite the ladies posting the three best cards.

Sybille Shababi, in imperious form, carded 40 points off 31 with Tricia Robson second on 38. Rosemary Martin’s third place 37 was matched by acting seniors’ captain Nick Tidey, and six of his teammates scored 30 or better to help secure the win.

The first men’s medal of the year saw the top three Saturday finishers in Division One all post nett 70 with 11-handicap Nigel Ingram taking first on a back nine countback from Caleb Ivey and Brendan Earley.

Peter Catchpole, off 20, led the second tier with nett 72 followed by John Badillo, 73, and Tony Moss, 74.

Sunday scorers were headed by Peter Wilson, round in two over par with four birdies for an outstandin­g nett 68.

Runner-up Cameron James-Gibson claimed bragging rights with 69 to brother Henry’s 70 but Division Two leader Kieran Mansukh posted the round of the day – an astonishin­g nett 62 off 29.

Nearest challenger Brian Uttley was eight shots behind; Lewis Hamblet third on 72.

Margaret Brown and Julia Hoskins were joint winners of the 14-hole ladies’ fun competitio­n. Their 44 point returns were two better than those of Mina Burton and Rosemary Martin.

In the nine-hole roll-up on the Kingfisher course, Lewis Westlake posted 20 points off four including three birdies to beat dad Phil by two and Simon Turpit by three.
