Round-up: thieves and street racers

-

Thieves have struck again in villages around Horsham over the past week.

Police say that an Audi was stolen from Briar Lane in Billingshurst at around 8.50pm on January 27.

In an earlier incident, number plates were stolen from a Ford Focus parked in Houghton, near Amberley, some time between 10.30am and 2pm on January 25.

● Street racers are causing ‘repeated disturbances’ in Horsham, police have said.

Drivers have been doing ‘burnouts’, revving their engines and littering, according to police, and officers working to stop the illegal activity have urged witnesses to come forward.

In a post on social media, residents have been asked to dial 101 if they witness street racing. Horsham Police Tweeted on Saturday (January 29): “Police are looking to put a stop to street racers who have been causing repeated disturbances in the Horsham area.

“The racers have been doing burnouts, revving engines and littering whilst not adhering to speed limits or the highway code. If seen, please report to 101 or online.”

● A brick was hurled through the window of a Horsham house in an attempted burglary.

Police say the incident happened at a property in Guildford Road overnight between January 23 and 24.

In an earlier incident, a Land Rover was stolen from outside a house in Manor Road, Horsham, between 2am and 7.30am on January 18.

Burglars damaged a window at a property in Houghton Bridge, Amberley, between 9am and 12 noon on January 19 before fleeing with ‘a number of items,’ say police.

In other incidents, people were spotted trying car door handles in Chennells Way, Horsham and in Randall Way, Billingshurst.
