Young athletes shine as indoor league ends
It was a smaller Horsham Blue Stars team for the third and final Sussex Sportshall League meeting but that did not stop them recording notable performances and retaining third position in the league.
After some highly competitive athletics atWorthing Leisure Centre, Blue Stars were victorious in 11 events.
In the U11 Boys Beau Bulezuik recorded an outstanding treble for the second meeting in succession by winning the one-lap race in 13.2sec, the four-lap race in 57.7 and then teaming up with Jason Akpoveta to win the six-lap parlauf event in 1: 26.5. Akpoveta also won his four-lap race in 59.0.
The U11 Girls had their most successful meeting of the season finishing third in their age group with Saffie Ayley leading the way with a victory in her four-lap race in 60.7.
In the U13 Girls category Isabella Akpoveta continued her dominance in the sprint events winning both the twolap race in 26.2 and the fourlap race in 56.0. Leyla Carillo performed a notable personal best in the Vertical Jump coming second with 55cm.
In the U13 Boys William Waghorn completed a clean sweep in the Speed Bounce by winning the event for the third meeting in a row. William also managed a creditable second place in his six-lap event in 1:35.1. He was backed up by Joe Wilkie who won his Speed Bounce event having also won at the last meeting in December. Frederick Akpoveta was second in his four-lap event in 56.4.
The U15 Girls had their best performance of the season in the field events finishing second overall in that category with strong performances from Aurelia Smith and Evie Delahunt.
Reggie Tydd also performed a clean sweep in all three events by winning the U15 boys Speed Bounce again as well as recording a victory in his six-lap event.
In all Horsham Blue Stars managed to field 47 athletes over three competitive and enjoyable events. Twelve o have now been selected to represent Sussex in the Regional Final on February 19 at The Triangle in Burgess Hill. They are Beau Buzelik and Saffie Ayley (U11), Maia Columbo, Isabella Akpoveta, Leyla Carillo, Eryn DentonBrown, Ruby-Lily Marsh, Ferdinand Akpoveta, Freddie Dennysson, William Waghorn and Joe Wilkie (U13) and Reggie Tydd (U15).
