A garden in the heart of the Sussex countryside is providing the atmospheric setting for a spectacular new after-dark experience .

Nymans, the National Trust property near Haywards Heath, is playing host to a new light trail until March 6.

It opened last weekend and attracted a big crowd. Illuminated trails such as this have grown in popularity over the Christmas period, but this new one at Nymans took on a Valentine’s theme.

Popular with families of all ages during the half-term and also billed as a romantic date for couples, the light trail is proving to be a hit.

A National Trust spokesman said: “Set against a gloriously romantic backdrop, Nymans is made for garden lovers, a place where creativity has flourished and quirkiness is celebrated.

“The cherished grounds will play host to Ignite’s fantastic new light trail, enabling visitors to wander between flickering flames and majestic trees, as lights dance from one space to another.

“Within this fiery interpretation of stars and spheres, illuminated flora and fantasy, there are moments of reflection and playful discovery set to a soundscape that aim inspire and intrigue.

“Join with family and friends to immerse yourself in the shimmering effects of fire and light.”

Visitors are told to expect the unexpected with fairies dancing in trees and fiery fish glowing at dusk.

The new after-dark adventure has been specially designed for visitors of all ages to enjoy.

There are a wide range of illuminated scenes to enjoy as you make your way through the clearly marked trail.

You are also given a lantern to hold for parts of your walk.

It takes just over an hour to complete the trail and enjoy the lights but there are marshmallows to purchase and toast halfway round, as well as a snack food stand and tea and coffee.

It is open on February 11 until March 6 and tickets are on sale now.

They cost £16.50 for an adult or £24.50 to include parking.

Children aged over two cost £12 and a family ticket for two adults and two children with a parking space costs £62.
