Fittleworth Village is excited to be opening 14 gardens and other attractions for your Spring enjoyment on Sunday May 1 and Monday May 2.

Charles Clark, Committee Chair says: “We are delighted to be back welcoming visitors, and everyone is looking forward to sharing their gardens within this very special part of West Sussex.

“For this year our Parish Church of St Marys will be open and themed ‘All things bright and beautiful’ so do take time to pop in whilst walking the Trail.”

There will be something for everyone, ranging from large country houses to smaller village cottages, from the formal to the informal, wild gardens to walled gardens.

There is a spectacular terraced garden stretching to the riverside and water meadows, whilst in contrast others on higher ground with wide ranging views of the Downs.

In addition, Cat Welfare Sussex will be showcasing the Fulling Mill ongoing restoration of a 14th century cottage and garden, and, by kind permission of local resident Nicholas Smith, Wynkcoombe Arboretum will be forming part of the trail, with over 600 trees and shrubs, including many rare species from around the world.

There will also be an historical summary of houses within the Trail, with some interesting and surprising history behind closed doors!

Tickets will be available from the Village Hall priced £7 per person (under 12s are free) with gardens open from 2pm to 6pm.

Also from the Village Hall, teas, homemade cake and sandwiches will be served through the afternoon.

The very popular plant stall will be there for you to pick up that ‘special’ plant to take home, all handpicked by local garden designer Lucy Benham as well as plants from villager Graham Martin who carefully grows and nurtures plants throughout the winter especially to support the Trail.

Village watercolour artist Clare Jackman will be exhibiting and selling pictures and cards.
