Bowlers are Branching out for trophy success
Pulborough’s annual pairs competition, the Ron & Eileen Branch Shield, ended in presentations by their grandson Nick Branch.
After 4 sessions of 7 ends, the winners this year were new player Jenny Patterson and experienced Matt Ives.
Pulborough played the Worthing Grasshoppers.
Joint top rink went to Paul Leatherbarrow, Ray Knight and Liam Blunden 17/11, after a 6 on the 6th end and skip Steve Adsett with Jenny Patterson as lead and Ian Younger as 2, who saved their 6 until the 13th end, winning by 6 shots overall! Pulborough finished 79/69 after 18 ends.
Sutton came to Pulborough. 3 triples played some competitive bowls, with the away team winning on 2 of the 3 rinks and taking the overall win.
A game at Stedham is always a treat. Top rink for Pulborough went to Malcolm Gray, with Linda Meadowcroft and Paul Smith in support, who finished 17/14 after a game of two halves saw them pile on the points in the first half and cling on to them in the second!
A trip to Henfield saw 4 triples play 18 ends, with both teams claiming 2 wins.

6 ends with some heavy scoring to finish with an impressive 31-11!
HORSHAM
Horsham Bowling Club are getting into a busy schedule of outdoor games now.
A visiting team from Sussex Masonics came to play five triple mixed rinks.
It is always a pleasure to host them.
The overall score was 11853 in Horsham’s favour with their top rink led by Lesley Grogan with Mike Wilson and Anna Bishop, who won 33-8.
The score was not really important as Sussex Masonic
were able to donate their green fees to charity.
Horsham travelled to Popes Mead for a five rink match and won 86-72. They won three rinks, lost 1 and drew 1. Top rink for Horsham, winning 20-10, was Dave Marden, Fran Baillie and Neil Jarvis.
Southwater joined Horsham for 4 mixed rinks, over 21 ends. After 13 ends, the scores were tied at 44-44, but Horsham fortunes then faltered.
They won two rinks, Southwater won two, but honours went to visitors Southwater on this occasion 75-62. Top rink for Horsham went to skip Stuart King, supported by Alan Pestell, Mike Pearson & Debbie Jarvis, winning 24-11.
HORSHAM PARK
Horsham Park’s home game against East Grinstead started in light rain which soon cleared up but there was a chill in the air.
Park enjoyed a resounding win, taking 3 of the 4 rinks and winning by 57 shots, 95 -38.
In a close game, Horsham Park won their friendly away to Cranleigh 62-61.
Park’s top rink went to skip Bryony Wood’s team of Phil Claridge and Norman
Stone who led from the start, and held their nerve to win by 16-11.
Horsham Park lost their away game at Haywards Heath 74-63.
On one of the hottest afternoons of the year so far, Horsham Park won their home game against Storrington 55-33.
Park’s top rink went to captain David Spurr who with Shirley Stone and Beryl Noble dominated their game from the start, winning 29-6.
SOUTHWATER
Southwater hosted Brockham and although rinks were shared the visitors won by 62-55.
The winning rinks were Sue Jones, Jean Meinertzhagen and Tim Gander (18-6) and Christine Price, Les Gordon and John Coghlan (17-13). Lindfield were entertained and after winning 3 rinks and drawing one Southware were winners by 77-56.
Best was Jackie Merchant, Christine Price, Peter Curd and John Fiander (21-10) with Annie Anderson, Mike Jones, Pauline Scott and Cliff Merchant (20-14) Ian Cribb, Jinny Fiander, Martin Hargrave and Jenny Haysom (19-15), Sue Jones, John Boranski, Jean Meinertzhagen and John Coghlan (17-17).
A visit to Horsham BC had both clubs winning 2 rinks each but the overall score favoured Southwater 75-62.
John Boranski, Christine Price , Tim Gander and Geoff Kentish won 29-9 and Martin Hargrave, John Curlewis Jenny Haysom and John Coghlan 26-14.
