Welbeck: I am a little bit disappointed the season is coming to an end
Striker Danny Welbeck is aiming to finish on a high against West Ham at the Amex Stadium this Sunday following his strike at Leeds United last weekend
Welbeck, 31, has played in seven of the last eight games and scored and assisted twice in his last four matches.
“I have been getting 90 minutes and I am feeling really strong,” the forward said. “I am a little bit disappointed the season is coming to an end because I am on a good run of games. I want us to finish the season strongly and we have the opportunity to do that at the weekend against West Ham, we’re looking forward to it.”
Welbeck, who is out of contract this summer and has netted five times this campaign, was disappointed Albion couldn’t hold out for the win at Leeds but wants to put on another good display against an in-form West Ham team this weekend.
Brighton are still battling for a top 10 finish but David Moyes’ Hammers arrive fresh from a 2-2 draw against
Man City and have enjoyed a another strong season in the Premier League and in Europe.
Welbeck added: “Everyone is really disappointed to have conceded so late [at Leeds]. Going 1-0 up, we were looking to see out the final few minutes so we knew that might be a situation we would find ourselves in.
“We’re not happy not taking the points home.
“There’s an element of pride when you look at the table, but as a group we are very ambitious, we want to be better.
“We wanted to get the three points against Leeds, maybe their goal was a bit of naivety [by us] but it will give us that little kick up the backside and make us realise we’ve got to be better.
“It was good to get the team on the right tracks with the goal, unfortunately though it didn’t secure the three points which would have made it mean more.”
