Scramble for honours – and wins for juniors

-

A Texas scramble is one of the few formats where golfers have the opportunity to play in a team of four.

Each player must take at least four drives and then everyone takes their next shot from where it lands, regardless of the terrain.

The handicaps are mixed levels and the team handicap is calculated on ten percent of the total of all four.

Horsham Seniors decided to mix it up a bit by playing a modified Stableford scoring version of this format and that led to some unexpectedly high and low scores.

The winning team on Tuesday was Kevin Walker, Clive Limbrick, Jill Jordan and John Everett, who managed an excellent score of 58

points with nine birdies and only one bogey across the 18 holes.

In second place were Rob

Neal Smith, Margaret Unsworth, Andy Wachnianin and John Fraser who clocked up seven birdies but succumbed to two bogeys with a final score of 50 points.

However, the Wednesday players did even better – with the winning team of Nairon Khan, James Barclay, Roger Smith and Den Warren scoring two eagles as well as seven birdies and only one bogey, finishing with an impressive 62 points.

The team coming in second with eight birdies and only one bogey, giving them a score of 55 points, comprised John Butler, Chris Macauley, Phil Hedges and Jeremy Briggs.

This is a format that encourages conversation, requires strategy and favours real teamwork – all making for a most enjoyable round of golf.
