Does Mr Elvery pay for parking?

- JOHN PERIAM Felpham, Bognor Regis

I was amazed to read of the costs involved in relocation expenses for Nathan Elvery the Chief Executive of West Sussex County Council of £47k on top of his salary of £190,000 a year (WSG Jan 30).

Are we being taken for a ride? I wonder. Parking in Chichester is on the increase and the Council still adds a little over the top on this knowing that extra funds come in by not giving change from their parking machines. Did this help pay for Mr Elvery’s move?

I was also told by one of the senior executives from St Richard’s Hospital that parking charges now levied to staff have been increased due to the fact that parking charges in Chichester are so high that people were parking in the hospital. To stop this the hospital increased its charges. Charging dedicated hospital staff a high fee to go to work should not be allowed.

Perhaps it is time Mr Nathan Elvery decided to look into reducing charges for parking and refunded some of his £47k to help others in more need.

I do believe there is a ‘Freedom of Information Act’ via this paper I would like to ask West Sussex County Council to inform its readers what has happened to the extra money taken from parking machines that do not give change and why they allow this to happen knowing most people do not often have the exact funds.

It’s time West Sussex

County Council considered others, including shop owners in Chichester and small businesses as well as visitors and theatre goers. If other local towns such as Littlehampton and Bognor Regis can make parking more acceptable why can Chichester. Stop being greedy and consider others. Oh yes, does Mr Elvery pay parking?
