Quartet to play at Chi jazz club

-

Chichester Jazz Club welcomes the Tommaso Starace and Dave O’Higgins Harmonyless Quartet to The Pallant Suite, Freemason’s Hall, 7 South Pallant, Chichester on Friday, February 15.

Spokeswoman Melissa Hauffe said: “Alto saxophonist Tommaso Starace includes in his new pro-ject one of Britain’s best Tenor saxophonists Dave O’Higgins, on bass Rio Kay and drums Chris Nickolls.

“The quartet gets its title from the absence of a harmonic instrument such as the guitar or piano. The absence of these gives the opportunity to both horns to improvise with more harmonic freedom as if they each are in a trio context when each left to solo.

“The melodies in the horns (alto and tenor) are harmonised to give more character to the compositions. Tommaso explores new original tunes and revisits some of the great jazz standards of the past such as Trinkle-Tinkle (T Monk), Bebop (D Gillespie), Grand Central (J Coltrane). Prepare yourselves for high doses of adrenaline and full-on hard swing.”

For guests only, advance tickets can be bought at Chichester Tourist Information Centre – 01243 775888 or www.novium.org/ boxoffice. More information at www.chichesterjazzclub. co.uk. Doors open 6.45pm, music starts at 7.45pm.
