Littlehampton Wave Life Saving Club were pleased to have been able to restart their teaching sessions after so many stops and starts caused by the Covid pandemic.

These interruptions meant members have been left needing to get some water fitness back.

Following the launching of the Captain Sir Tom Moore Foundation 100 Challenge, David Slade, the club instructor, set the three most advanced members a challenge to swim and tow their half-filled rescue manikins for a total of 100 lengths of The Wave pool in the 40-minute wet training session. He said that if they succeeded, he would donate £100 to the Foundation.

They completed the challenge with two minutes to spare and he was happy to part with the money.

The participants were SophiaHendey(12),whoattends Littlehampton Academy, Jude Morris (14), from Angmering School,andOliviaKidd(14),who attends Our Lady of Sion School in Worthing.

These three also received their Royal Life Saving Society Silver Sport medals and certificates, having taken the exam in the last week before the December lockdown.

It was a very successful evening with Jack and Bella Lee also making progress towards completing the Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Sport Award. With the easing of lockdown restrictions the club are gradually moving towards reintroducing parts of the Survive & Save syllabus which have been put on hold in complicance with social distancing and sanitising requirements. The waiting list for anyone wishing to join is currently a short one and, subject to maximum numbers allowed by The Wave, the club are hoping to start a new class soon.

If you are 12 years or over, download a copy of the information sheet and application form from the club website www.lwlsc.co.uk or ask for these at The Wave Reception, or give David Slade a call on 01903 715745 or email david@dcslade.co.uk

Club night is Wednesday 7pm to 9pm.
