READERS’ CHARTER
misinformation.
Evidence of this is the reaction to Priory Park in Chichester ‘unsuitable for large events with stages and temporary buildings’ (see page 12 & online)misinterpreted that large events in Priory Park will not be allowed.
Quite the contrary, there will be more events in the park, such as the recent Rotary fun day with some 3,000 people and even the Real and Jazz festival would be welcomed back.
What will be scrutinised are events which require very heavy vehicles for construction of the stage and lighting, such as for the recent BEL events, or large temporary structures.
These heavy vehicles used have the potential to chew up the grass and although it can be repaired, it takes many years to return to the previous structure.
Whilst the damage is being repaired the other regular users such as the cricket club are badly affected.
We have to accept that historic Priory Park has limitations. I have personally come under attack as a ‘killjoy’ by not allowing events in the park.
The irony is I am organising a very large event in the park called Over the Rainbow.
It is free, we will have a good time and I doubt you will know the event ever happened the following morning as we all care for Priory Park.
