Sussex winners revealed for the Community Chest Awards 2021
The Sussex recipients of the Community Chest Eastern Awards2021havebeenrevealed.
Theawards,whichareintheir 20th year, are run by Hall and Woodhouse — a British family brewery founded in 1777 — with mediapartnersJPIMediaSussex, which was represented by editorial director Gary Shipton.
Business directors Mark Woodhouse and Lucinda Gray wereonhandtodistributenearly £25,000 to 18 Sussex charities at Goffs Manor, Crawley, on Thursday. Guest speaker Richard Curtis BEM passed on the big cheques.

Mr Woodhouse said: “Tonight’s awards are really fantastic. It’s the culmination of months of judging. It’s fabulous to be able to give away money to such incredible voluntary organisationsinourcommunity.
“It’s a complete joy. It’s fabulous to see everybody again and get to do what we normally do.”
Mr Shipton added: “It’s been a fantastic evening, giving away large sums of money to great causes across East and West Sussex.SussexNewspapershave beenreallyproudtosupportHall and Woodhouse’s Community Chest since the very start. That will be 20 years next year.
“It’s been really terrific that Hall and Woodhouse still gives moneytogoodcauses,eveninthe depths of lockdown, when many of their own pubs were shut.
“Welookatgroups,thatapply to us, which have a real need and make a real difference in the Sussex communities that they serve.”
