Concern over spikes
Complaintsaboutexposedspikes on the Pagham Spit have led to Arun District Council promising to work alongside lease owners Crown Estate to ‘find the best solution’.
The council said the spikes were part of Second World War coastal defences, which used to spread along the whole southern coastline.
“Muchofitwasremovedafter WorldWarTwo,butportionsofit haveremainedburiedeversince,” a council spokesman said.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and carry on our discussions with the Crown Estate,whoweleasetheforeshore from, to find the best solution.”
