Gazette joins sister titles with new venture

- Gary Shipton Editor In Chief ws.letters@jpimedia.co.uk

The West Sussex Gazette website has joined with its sister titles across Sussex to launch a new online platform– SussexWorld.

Sussex World brings together our existing 16 local news sites that have served every town and village in this fabulous stretch of England for many years.

It is powered by the professional and trusted journalism from our premier range of local newspapers – the Chichester Observer Series, Littlehampton Gazette, Worthing Herald series, Eastbourne Herald, Hastings Observer series, Sussex Express, Mid Sussex Times, Crawley Observer, West Sussex County Times, the Gazette and the Brighton Indy.

And this new website will be rich in all your local news as well as essential information, culture and what’s on, sport, fascinating features and key events from across Sussex.

Our home page – which you will reach by typing in sussexworld.co.uk – will carry the biggest news from across Sussex and will be constantly updated.

But look along the index bar at the top and you can drill down very easily to the news where you live.

For West Sussex you will discover sections for Chi chester, Worthing, Horsham, Crawley, Mid Sussex, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Midhurst and Petworth, Arun and Adur.

Then there are special sections for key areas of story telling: Sport, Brighton and Hove Albion, What’s On, Retro, Lifestyle, and Opinion.

Our News tab gives you comprehensive coverage of Business, Weather, Traffic & Travel, Politics, Consumer, Health, Education, Crime, Environment, People and Read This.

Please explore the site. We have launched SussexWorld to ensure you not only get your local news but the very best coverage of events outside where you live that you might want to travel to.

We also wanted to give you a much better user experience than was possible with 16 smaller sites.

That means you can register for regular newsletters so we can let you know about the latest content of greatest interest to you.

Video and live news reporting will be a key part of Sussex World – so please tune in to our daily news, weather and sports video bulletins produced by our journalists in Sussex.

But some things won’t change. You will still find links to our stories on social media.

We will continue to hold power to account. We will be bold and inquisitive in our reporting and we will invite you to have a say.

One thing that has become clear over the lockdown is that people want news which is open and compassionate, told in a way that doesn’t talk down to readers. You want us to be as proud of the areas where we live and work as you are.

All our local journalists are based in Sussex. Many of our reporters are renowned experts in their fields of specialism.

We will involve you, our audience, in our journalism, and actively encourage you to shape our reporting on the issues that matter to you.

In difficult times we know that escapism and light relief can be just as vital as hard-nosed news.

We will aim to entertain as well as inform, whether that’s through a sharp piece of cultural commentary, an amusing video or a quiz that tests your niche knowledge.

We will cover entertainment and cultural genres like television, film, gaming, the arts and books, and lifestyle topics like travel, homes, money and food and drink – in a way helps you reach decisions on how to spend your valuable free time.

We will write about sport in a style that puts the fans first, whether that’s poking fun at the pundits or bringing in new and authentic voices.

This is Sussex World. We hope you’ ll stay with us for the journey. Join us on Facebook and Twitter.
