Council tax – no freeze?

-

It’s official. The agreed county council budget means council tax will rise by 2.99 per cent, adding a further strain to household bills across our town.

This includes a 1.99 per cent general increase plus an additional one per cent for dedicated adult social care.

This will put the county council element of an average band D council tax bill at £1,555.74, or £4.26 per day.

I am personally disappointed that no freeze was considered, especially as the hard-working taxpayer has faced with the high increases in energy bills and now train tickets.

Where is the compassion for a town that is recovering from the grips of the worst pandemic in decades?

I wonder if we will find out what our councillors think about the decision?
