The top wine brands sponsoring the BAFTAs

-

Sunday (March 13) will see the 75th EE British Academy Film Awards ceremony take place at the Albert Hall in London. Reduced to a virtual event in 2021 due to the pandemic, this year it’s back to an in-person event and will be broadcast on BBC1 at 7pm. In attendance is due to be the great and the good of the TV and film industry, members of the Royal Family, alongside many other celebrities.

Champagne Taittinger and Villa Maria of New Zealand are two of the official partners of the BAFTAs, sponsoring the awards throughout the year, not just at the iconic awards ceremony, with other awards taking place through the year.

This is now the 13th year that

Villa Maria’s wines have been served and enjoyed at all BAFTA award ceremonies. They are the most awarded winery in New Zealand, producing effortlessly balanced, elegant and approachable wines that are the perfect accompaniment to all of the Academy’s prestigious events.

Champagne Taittinger has been the Official Champagne partner to BAFTA for 20 years and is proud to support the Academy. Taittinger

Brut Réserve is the celebratory toast for all the Academy awards and is available by the glass in BAFTA’s home at 195 Piccadilly. With Vitalie Taittinger at the helm, it is one of the few top Champagne houses to remain owned and actively managed by the eponymous family.

A number of massively popular films are tipped for big wins, among which are The Power of the Dog, Belfast and the latest Bond Film, No

Time to Die. Hosted by the Australian comedian and actress Rebel Wilson, Sunday night looks set to be both fun and interesting, finding out who are this year’s winners.

Taittinger Brut Reserve NonVintage is a blend of the three main Champagne grape varieties, harvested from some of the best vineyards of the region. Subtle, sophisticated and elegant it is one of my personal favourite Champagnes and seems a perfect choice with which to toast the BAFTAs. Available from many outlets including Waitrose, Tesco and Majestic at around £40. Enjoy its finesse and elegance with a plate of smoked salmon in front of the TV.

Villa Maria Cellar Selection

Sauvignon Blanc 2021 and Pinot

Noir 2020 are both available from Majestic and Sainsbury’s at £14.65 and £17.30 respectively, with the Pinot Noir on offer at £12.45 from Waitrose. Fabulous value alternative to Burgundy, it is fruity and stylish. The Cellar Selection range is made with great attention to detail, fully expressing the character of the grape varieties and the terroir on which they are grown.

Villa Maria Cellar Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is bursting with tropical fruit aromas and flavours, with mango, guava, pineapple and a touch of asparagus. Good balancing acidity with juicy fruit on the palate and a refreshing finish.
