Food security in spotlight

The WSG has traditionally held rural values – and every week it gives an insight into life in the countryside via our two farmers’ columns (see page 16).

For some time, they have been discussing issues such as food security – and it is this topic which is covered on our front page this week.

Many people are concerned about housebuilding – particularly when it involves the loss of agricultural land. With conflict in Ukraine highlighting the importance of this part of the world on provision of certain foodstuffs, the question of where our food is produced is crucial. We can do a much better job of producing our own food at home, here in the UK.
