‘No two days are the same’

- By Anna Jones, director of children services

For the children and families we care for at Chestnut Tree House, there is nothing more important than having fun, making special memories together and sometimes, doing something they never thought they could! And throughout the Easter holidays, we have lots of fun activities planned – from a visit from birds of prey and a circus, to a junk drumming workshop, a no chocolate easter egg hunt, and so much more.

The adventures don’t stop there, we travel all over Sussex and South East Hampshire to bring games and laughter to children and their siblings in their own homes – allowing tired parents a few precious hours to go for a walk, take a bath or just catch up on sleep.

For those teenagers who want some time away from their families and a rare chance to hang out and laugh with friends, our monthly youth group is a hit. The team are always guided by the teenagers and some of the most popular evenings have included an outdoor cinema night, Hawaiianthemed mocktail party and even a secret escape room challenge.

Of course, it’s not just about the children and young people we care for, we are also there to support their siblings. Growing up with a brother or sister who has a life-limiting condition isn’t always easy, so during the school holidays, siblings can enjoy trips to the local zoo, bowling alley or tennis court – giving them the opportunity to make friends with other children who understand, and a chance to express themselves in a safe environment.

And, when the time comes, the activities team often work closely with our care team to help families say goodbye, whether creating precious hand casts from clay, building memory boxes or spending an afternoon baking with a sibling who is struggling after the death of their brother or sister.

When it comes to Chestnut Tree House, no two days are the same. We don’t like to say ‘no’ and try to make everything possible for the children and young people we care for! To find out more, visit chestnut.org.uk
