Energy bill support, and the countryside
Whilst most will receive the benefits of the £400 government help with the cost of energy automatically via their electricity bill, the Government has now opened its energy bill support website online for those who live in residential park homes, off-grid or who don’t receive an electricity bill in their own name.
This is something that I have been pressing for on behalf of many constituents who are in this situation and I am pleased that an effective solution has been put in place.
You can find out if you are eligible by searching ‘apply for energy bill support’ online.
This funding is part of an unprecedented wider package of measures put in place by the Government to support households with their energy bills.
If you have any difficulties in accessing this support, please do contact me.
As a rural community, we all appreciate the natural beauty of the South Downs and countryside around us.
It is for this reason that protecting our green fields and farmland from unsuitable development is so important.
That is why I have encouraged residents to submit their views to the Government’s consultation on the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) which closes this week.
The consultation is the means by which the government is delivering on its reform of the system of top down housing targets and putting more weight on communities own neighbourhood plans.
In my own response
I set out that development should be very rigorously ‘brownfield first’ and that the NPPF should ensure that new houses are only built in areas which already have the right physical infrastructure and spaces available in important services such as primary schools and NHS Dentists.
