Jim’s so White hot to take golf glory

-

In another eventful week at Horsham Golf, seniors’ vicecaptain Jim White took the lion’s share of glory by winning two of the three events he entered and coming fourth in the other.

First on Jim’s radar was the rearranged Spring Cup.

In this medal competition, men play off the daunting black tees and women off the green.

The course held no fear for Jim, as his nett 70 held off the challenge of Oli Hill and Luke Eager both of whom finished on 71.

Jim repeated the feat on the first Wednesday seniors medal when, playing off the more familiar blue tees, his nett 69 took him three shots clear of John Dodsworth, Nairon Khan and Steve Lane, all on 72.

The clean sweep evaded him on Tuesday when his nett 70 was only good enough for fourth.

Seniors’ captain Howard Mannion took the Medal when a moderate 10 over par outward nine was followed by a three over par back nine, to give him nett 66 and the victory.

Ian Cherriman’s gross 79 was only good enough for a second place nett 67, just ahead of Keith Gaston-Parry on nett 69. The seniors hosted their Haywards Heath counterparts in the fourth friendly of the season.

Looking to bounce back from a loss to Cranleigh the team got off to a great start when Howard Mannion and Nairon Khan won the first match by two.

Momentum shifted to the away team, when Shane Condell and Peter Bayles, giving nine shots to their opponents, lost by 4&2. Narrow losses followed with Ian Cherriman and Kevin Lee and Graham Bastin and Derek Jones losing by one on the last hole.
