Excitement as pub named finalist in national awards

-

The finalists in the influential pub industry awards, Pubaid's Community Pub Hero Awards, have been announced and The Three Moles, Selham, has been shortlisted.

The Three Moles was nominated by Tom Richardson in the Community Sustainability category and has seen competition from almost 1,000 other pubs nationwide.

This Community Sustainability Award recognises how pubs are helping the environment whether that’s in pub itself or within the local area.

Two other pubs, The George and The Bell Inn, in Castleton, Peak District and Castle Hedingham, Essex respectively have also been shortlisted.

The pub was shortlisted for its environmental and community initiatives, including planting trees in developing countries, saving energy, water, and oil, providing habitats for wildlife, using local and sustainable products, recycling and reducing waste, and supporting local events and causes. The pub has also received awards from the South Downs National Park Authority and the BII.

Tom Richardson from The Three Moles said: “We are very excited to have been selected as a finalist for the Community Pub Hero’s award.

"The team here work very hard to do everything we can for the local community and the environment and would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who supports us.”

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony, sponsored by Matthew Clark, at the Houses of Parliament on March 5 and all shortlisted pubs are invited to attend along with industry leaders and MPS.

Des O’flanagan, co-founder of Pubaid, added: “We launched these awards to celebrate the great work that pubs do for their community. The Three Moles is a perfect example of how pubs support and are a hub for many people in their community. The awards are in their fifth year and the volume of entries this year was staggering. What clearly came across from reading all the entries is that there are so many publicans that are doing amazing work nationwide. It was very hard to get to a shortlist so even getting to the finals is an amazing accolade for The Three Moles.”

Pubaid, which organises the awards in association with Matthew Clark and the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group, has refreshed the awards and created more categories to congratulate more community pubs throughout the UK. There are 33 finalists in total across five categories.
