Helen Edmundson's adaptation of Jamila Gavin's Whitbread Award-winningnovelpremiered at the National Theatre in 2005 beforetransferringtobroadway. The cast is: Will Antenbring (Alexander Ashbrook), Louisa Binder (Young Alexander/aarondangerfield),pandoraclifford (Lady Ashbrook/mrs Hendry), Rhiannadorris(melissamilcote/ Angel), Holly Freeman (Isobel Ashbrook), Aled Gomer (Meshak Gardiner), Harry Gostelow (Sirwilliamashbrook), Tallulah Greive (Alice Ashbrook), Rebecca Hayes (Young Thomasledbury), Tom Hier (Thomas Ledbury), Jewelle Hutchinson (Miss Price/toby Gaddarn), Debbiekorley(mrsmilcote),milo Mccarthy (Edward Ashbrook), Jo Mcinnes (Mrs Lynch), Samuel Oatley(otisgardiner/philipgaddarn) and James Staddon (Theodore Claymore/george Frederic Handel).theywillbejoinedbyan ensemble of 12 children.
