Ambulance driver is fighting for life

AN ambulance driver is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash on Thursday evening.

It happened on Wickwar Road in Yate when the ambulance was responding to an emergency call.

The ambulance was in a collision with a silver Skoda Fabia just before 8pm.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch. Police and fire services attended. The ambulance driver was taken to hospital with critical injuries while his colleague and the other driver sustained injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed at its junctions with Frith Lane and Amberley Way until about 2.30am.
