It’s high time we scrapped internships

- Helen Capel Winscombe, North Somerset

HOW can ‘internships’ still be allowed when it is in fact free ‘slave’ labour?

In this day and age it is a disgrace and should be banned. I understand that in the past people wanting to work in zoos could get an apprenticeship, but now they have to do an internship for a year, or some part of that year doing voluntary work with animals elsewhere.

Before they even get a chance of a job at a zoo they must also have got an appropriate degree.

There must be many examples like this in other workplaces.

At least with doing voluntary work, one can still have a paid job, unlike internships, which take up all of one’s working days.
