Mixed fortunes for Somerset sides in inter-county clashes
THE Somerset County Indoor Bowling Association’s Liberty Trophy team went down 136-105 to Dorset.
Somerset came out on top on two of the six rinks, but were well-beaten in two, and lost the other two as well.
At the end of last month, the SCIBA had a good win against West Country rivals Gloucestershire – 135 shots to 66.
A SCIBA spokesman said: “The game was played in the right spirit and was enjoyed by both teams.
“The game of bowls is not all about winning or losing, but bringing two counties or clubs together for a social and pleasant game of bowls.”
Brian Cracknell’s SCIBA Under25s played their first game against Isle of Wedmore and went down 42-28, while their second game against Taunton Vivary was a 77-37 reverse.
To encourage younger bowlers, there is the Somerset County Indoor Youth Development School of Excellence, while the Somerset Bowls Coaching Association runs tuition for indoor and outdoor bowlers, and is affiliated to English Bowls Coaches Society, supported by the Somerset Bowls Coaching Association.
