Ukip’s selection

UKIP has selected chartered surveyor Simon Smedley to fight the North East Somerset seat at the next general election.

The constituency’s current representative is noted Eurosceptic, Tory Jacob Rees-Mogg.

In 2017, Mr Smedley won 3.6 per cent of the vote in Bridgwater and West Somerset.
