Upgrade works arrive on time with railway line ready to reopen

-

THE railway line between Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway stations will reopen next week after upgrade works were completed on schedule.

Network Rail has confirmed the line between the two stations will reopen following nearly a month of works on Monday morning.

During that time, crews have worked around the clock to double the number of existing railway lines and improve signalling equipment.

It is hoped doubling the number of tracks from two to four will enable an increase in train services, including more journeys between Bristol and London.

In an update posted on the Network Rail Western Twitter account, area director Jonathan Davies said: “We’re just at the south of Filton Abbey Wood station with the new gantry that we’ve put up in this blockade which will allow us to resignal for the new Filton four-track scheme into Temple Meads.

“So this is going to be improving the capacity and capability. We initially put the two legs up in one of the night shifts, kept on working with all the track works and then later on we put the booms up and then the signal cages – the three signal cages you can see there as well.

“So that’s all ready for the signalling teams to test now that we’re in the last week of the blockade now.”
