Taunton front men are back in contention

-

TAUNTON will be strengthened by the return of strikers Matt Wright and Ollie Chamberlain for this afternoon’s away game against Farnborough in Southern League Premier Division South.

The Somerset side are lying second in the table, one point behind Weymouth, who went top in midweek after they beat Salisbury 2-1 at home.

Wright and Chamberlain both missed Taunton’s 2-1 victory at Gosport Borough last weekend through injury, while the former Exeter youngster Harry Gardner is back in contention again after being unavailable.

With third-placed Salisbury visiting Taunton on Wednesday this is an important five days of football for Taunton, who have been playing well under the club’s head of football Rob Dray.

“I think the club deserves a lot of credit to be up there with the likes of Weymouth and Salisbury, who are big clubs,” said Dray, whose management team has been boosted by the arrival of new skills coach Steve Perkins.

Taunton are hoping Perkins’ eye for detail will make the difference in a tight promotion chase.

The Somerset side could open a gap between themselves and West rivals Salisbury today as the Whites are involved in the FA Trophy this afternoon.

Frome, sitting just one point and one place above the drop zone, have an important game at the foot of the table as they visit Chesham, who are second-frombottom, five points behind this afternoon’s visitors.

Chesham’s main problem this season has been scoring goals, with just ten to their credit since the start of the campaign.

Swindon Supermarine, who lie just above Frome in the table, do not have a league match over the weekend.
