Treating employees properly is important
THERE is a huge imbalance of power between employers and employees.
Workers in the UK have few of the rights and protections given to workers in EU countries. Anyone working at an employer for under two years has very little employment protection against a rogue employer.
The government inspectors who oversee the UK’s 18,000 or so employment agencies are overseen by a government inspectorate of just 11 staff. A UK employer is likely to be inspected by this team only once every 500 years. Sobering, isn’t it?
No wonder rogue employers in all sectors think they can get away with treating employees so badly.
Bad organisations like that deserve to be fully exposed, as does any failure to act on reported breaches. Bad employers should be exposed so others can then be alerted.
Employees’ rights matter! Basic decency and treating people properly matters. John Clarkson
