Man attacked woman and then stole car

A WOMAN in her 30s was struck over the head by a man who is then believed to have stolen her car in a shocking incident in a small village near Taunton.

The woman was assaulted in Venn Close in Cotford St Luke on

Thursday at about 9.30pm.

She was taken to hospital for treatment to head and facial injuries and is now recovering with family members.

The woman has described the man as wearing a hat with his face covered.

He may also have an injury to his hand as the victim fought back, biting him.

Police found the stolen car, a black Renault Clio, crashed and abandoned in the Dene Road area a short time later.

Officers have carried out houseto-house inquiries, the vehicle has been recovered and the scene of the attack has been forensical­ly examined.

DI Lorett Spierenbur­g said: “This is a most unusual occurrence for this quiet village.

“Uniformed officers are targeting their patrols in the area to give some reassuranc­e and will be supporting detectives investigat­ing this incident.”
