We’ll pay for yellow lines, say residents

-

PEOPLE living in one part of the West are so keen to have double yellow lines painted near their homes they are willing to splash out for the paint themselves.

A crucial rush-hour bus service has been cut at Portishead marina because buses frequently cannot get past badly parked cars.

And now residents have said they would be willing to fund work to get parking restrictions installed themselves.

Early morning buses struggle to pass cars whose owners have parked badly overnight.

And this month bus operator First withdrew the X3A service – which runs in the early mornings and evenings – from Newfoundland Way or Phoenix Way in the North Somerset town because of continuing access problems.

Residents living in other areas in and around the marina are now asking North Somerset to introduce further restrictions.

And where the authority says it does not have the cash to fund the work, residents are offering to raise the money themselves.

Councillor David Pasley, who represents the marina, said: “We are being asked to extend the double yellow lines on roads in and around the marina.

“Residents are becoming so frustrated with the inconsiderate and bad parking that they are even offering to fund the work themselves.

“We have already seen bus services cancelled because of the issues with badly parked cars on the marina.

“This is very inconvenient for residents and these requests for additional traffic regulations will be looked at as a priority.”

However, increasing the number of regulations may not be straightforward because parts of the marina are still in the hands of the developers and have yet to be adopted by the council.

The parking issues have also caused problems for other large vehicles, such as refuse and recycling trucks, which have been unable to get along the routes.

Inconsiderate parking has long been a bugbear of residents and visitors to the marina.

Concerns have also been raised about emergency vehicles not being able to access homes and businesses.
