Dead quiet property to be sold at auction
APROPERTY that for once truly lives up to estate agent’s promise that the neighbours are quiet is going under the hammer.
But they are unlikely to advise you on repairing a lawnmower or lend you a cup of sugar – for this particularly home is in the grounds of a cemetery.
The Grade II-listed 160-year-old property at Chepstow Cemetery goes up for sale at auction next month and could prove to be an ideal new home for wannabe goths and Edgar Allan Poe enthusiasts.
The ecclesiastically styled, blockbuilt carved stone faced property, which dates from 1854, is being sold by Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide of £150,000 plus.
Mr Fosh said: “This lodge would appear to be the perfect period property for those looking to get away from noisy neighbours.
“The Grade II-listed freehold detached building, built in 1854 with more modern additions added in the sixties and more recently, is positioned at the entrance to Chepstow cemetery.
“The two-bed property, with three downstairs rooms – one of which has been used as a bedroom – has been modernised previously but has scope for further work.
“Located off Mathern Road in the High Beech area of Chepstow the property, probably once used by the cemetery sexton, has a large enclosed garden to the rear and a parking space to the side along with a conservatory.
