Britton hails Peare ahead of the run-in

THE return of club captain Nick Peare to the Yate side could not have come at a better time as the Division One South title battle enters the home straight.

Peare will again lead the side as Yate travel to Phil Bater’s Larkhall this afternoon, having made an instant impact at home to Slimbridge last weekend, scoring a superb hat-trick on his comeback to the team after serving a four-game suspension.

But Yate manager Paul Britton revealed Peare has a lot more to offer the team with nine games of the season remaining.

“Nick admitted that he wasn’t particularly happy with his overall game last weekend, but his three goals were quality,” said Britton. “That showed his intent for the rest of the season and let’s hope he can do it again. He is definitely a big character for us both on and off the pitch and is important to the team.”

Britton also revealed Peare’s success this season has not gone unnoticed on the non-League scene with approaches from Gloucester City and Truro City for the goalscoring midfielder.

“Nick is very happy with us and that is important to him,” added Britton. “He is really enjoying his football and he knows there is a big opportunity for the players to achieve something this season.

“We were top of the league for a long time and that is where we want to finish the season.

“I am sure all the top teams will drop points between now and the end of the season and it will come down to the teams who make the least mistakes.”

Nick Humphreys is unavailable for the Larkhall match so defender Mayson Evans is likely to get his chance after injury.

“Let’s hope Mayson can have the same impact as Nick did last week,” added Britton.
