Going to polls could help right our wrongs

-

OH what a pity the Supreme Court ruled that the closure of Parliament was illegal. It would have been lovely to have gone up to October 31 without all the squabbling that is at present going on in Parliament.

It would have been much better if the Supreme Court had ruled that Parliament is not democratic and needs updating as it appears that not everyone appears to know the law. Also, the present standard of behaviour similar to that of the Whigs and Tories of the 18th century is unacceptable.

I think that this is an excellent opportunity for the whole of our parliamentary system to be updated and modernised.

For instance, we should begin by introducing proportional representation in our voting system. The average turnout for any type of election is often as low as 33 per cent because people find the first past the post system favours only one party and therefore, does not represent a true view of the voters.

Changing the way taxes are collected by removing company and individual taxes and replacing them with a local tax on all goods and services would mean that even people who have their money paid into tax havens they would still be paying taxes in this country. It would also give Britain an income from visitors.

We also need to update the inequality between England,

Ireland, Scotland and Wales. At present there are too many opposing payments such as university fees, National Health and other local services.

If the country is to go to the polls it should be a good opportunity to right the wrongs that are at present evident in the so called United Kingdom which to me is not united in any way!
