APPLE’S WWDC DATE CONFIRMED

Apple has revealed the date for its annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2021 (WWDC) – the event will run from June 7-11.

Like last year, it will be online only, with hundreds of sessions at which developers get to hear from and ask questions of Apple engineers.

For the rest of us the big interest will be in the opening-day keynote presentation, at which Apple’s high and mighty will walk us through changes coming to the software that drives all their devices – from iPhone, to iPad, Mac to Apple Watch.

It’s not totally out of the question that new hardware will also be revealed – a new, more powerful Apple TV set-top box is reportedly in the works, and there may be more news on the Mac’s transition from processors made by Intel to Apple’s own-brand silicon chips.

CLUBHOUSE USERS CASH IN & SPACES IS COMING TO DESKTOP

Voice chat-room sensation Clubhouse has started bringing monetisation features to its app.

Still in closed beta, the service – which allows users to create social audio spaces – is not yet available to anyone and everyone as its makers flesh out the system.

The new feature allows anyone to send money directly to other users using a simple ‘send money’ button on their profile – as yet, there’s no way to make people pay to join chats.

The system is powered by Stripe’s payment service, and apart from a small processing cut, all the money goes direct to the user – Clubhouse doesn’t take a cut itself.

Meanwhile over at Twitter, it has revealed its own social audio feature Spaces is about to make the jump from mobile to desktop.

Twitter has also said everyone on the platform will be able to create their own Spaces by the end of this month… so it looks like Spaces might be going global before Clubhouse gets off the starting blocks properly.
