A: "Homework?" Fred asked.

"Sort of, Dad," he replied. "I've been figuring out a number that's the square of its first pair of digits added to twice the square of the other pair."

Fred jotted down some figures on a scrap of paper. "You mean like 2832, twice the square of 32 plus the square of 28?"

"Yes, but I found a different number."

What was it?

B: "You'd better write it down," said Ted. "You'll never remember such a very ordinary 4-digit number."

But Harry had been scribbling on the back of an envelope. "There is something special about it," he declared. "It's two less than three times what you get if you subtract the square of the last two digits from the square of the first two."

What was the number?
