You cannot change Adams’ game – Edwards

-

ROB Edwards insists he will not be attempting to change Ebou Adams’ game despite losing the midfielder to suspension for three matches, writes Laurie Martin.

Adams was sent off late on in the 3-1 EFL Cup defeat to Brentford in midweek, right, and will therefore miss Forest Green’s next three matches, including the home game against Port Vale this afternoon.

Edwards said of Adams: “He’s been excellent for us. He’s a miss, but I think we’ve got really good players who can come into the mix.

“I look at Jack Aitchison in midweek – I thought he was outstanding. He gives us a great option, and Josh March getting some minutes was great. We’ve got good options. I was delighted with everyone on Tuesday, but I was particularly happy with Jack. He was outstanding on the night.”

Asked specifically if Adams needs to curb the enthusiasm that resulted in the red card, Edwards continued: “I think you’ve almost answered that in your question.

“He’s obviously a player that is so full of energy and is always on the front foot, and you came name many top players who are just like that, those sorts of players that are always on the edge while playing.

“You can’t take that away from him because he’s so good in the games. Of course, we want him to be steady going into challenges, because we want 11 men on the pitch and we want Ebou available every week.

“But we don’t want to take too much away from him. It’s just about decision-making. It’s something that we’ll chat about and help him with.

“He’s so effective, a great character and an important player, so we don’t want to take too much away from his game because he’s got so much energy and desire.”

While Forest Green have won four League Two games out of four, Swindon are not too far behind, with seven points from a possible 12.

Ben Garner’s men will aim to add to their tally at home to Mansfield this afternoon.
