BEN Tozer admits he is relieved to complete his transfer to Wrexham, after agreeing a three-year deal at the Racecourse Ground.

The outgoing Cheltenham Town captain has cost the ambitious National League club £200,000, as revealed by Gloucestershire Live, the sister website of the Daily Press, earlier this week.

Tozer told the official Wrexham website: “It’s really exciting to see the potential of the club, and the project going on, and ever since the club was mentioned to me, that’s something that’s driven me on to want to get this deal finalised.

“I’m relieved to have got it signed. The last few days have been stressful, and I just didn’t know which way it would go, but now it’s signed I’m relieved and looking forward to getting started.”

Wrexham’s former Sunderland and Bradford boss Phil Parkinson said: “I’m delighted with the signing.

He’s a very experienced player, he’s been part of a successful promotion winning team last season. He’s not only a good player, but he’s got real leadership qualities as well.”

Tozer spent just over three seasons at Cheltenham, helping them win the League Two title for the first time last season. He has been supporters’ player of the year for the last two seasons and has received national recognition for his long throw-in.

The Plymouth-born 31-year-old joined Cheltenham from Newport County in the summer of 2018 and was initially used as a midfielder. But since moving to the middle of a back three, he has been an automatic choice for Cheltenham boss Michael Duff, playing every minute of all 46 League games last season to help the club make history.

His final appearance in a Robins shirt was Tuesday’s Carabao Cup second round tie at Gillingham, which Cheltenham won 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The Robins played Burton away in front of the Sky Sports cameras in League One last night.
