Dafydd keen to be on the winner today

-

ASSISTANT boss Dafydd Williams is backing the Tigers over the horses this week as Gloucester City look to bounce back after defeat to leaders Gateshead.

While Williams admitted the players had kept a keen eye on the Cheltenham Festival this week, he is assured that they are fully focused on this afternoon’s game at Bradford Park Avenue.

“I couldn’t help but overhear some of the conversations going on about who they’re betting on and then when we get back into the clubhouse it’s on the telly. It’s been an enjoyable week for some, maybe not so much for others,” joked Williams.

On today’s National League North clash, he added: “It’s an opportunity to create a little bit of a gap on the teams below us, so we’re just looking at ourselves and for us to take steps in the right direction between now and the end of the season.”

Elsewhere, Hereford’s bid for a place in the play-offs has stalled of late, with no wins in their last four matches, so victory at home to their former Football League rivals Darlington this afternoon is pretty much essential.

In the National League South, Bath City are now just four points above the single relegation place after consecutive wins for bottom side Billericay, who also have a game in hand on the Romans.

Bath, at least, have drawn their last two, and today have a game at home to mid-table side Hemel Hempstead which looks very winnable on paper.

Chippenham, meanwhile, are still fighting to get into the endof-season play-offs and today visit Tonbridge Angels, who lie fourthfrom-bottom on the same points as Bath.

The Bluebirds are two points shy of the play-offs, although St Albans, in seventh, have a game in hand.
