Edwards: Let’s put on a show

- LAURIE MARTIN Football writer

FOREST Green Rovers head coach Rob Edwards says his players will “give everything” to reward today’s sell-out crowd at the New Lawn with victory at home to Harrogate.

Last week’s goalless draw at Bristol Rovers secured promotion to Sky Bet League One for the Green Devils, but the fourth-tier title is still up for grabs following the midweek defeat at Swindon.

Forest Green are now level on points with Exeter with two games to play, although goal difference is in Rovers’ favour by eight. As well as hosting Harrogate, the Nailsworth side visit Mansfield, while Exeter have tough tests at Northampton and at home to Port Vale.

Edwards told his pre-match media conference: “We’ll try to put on a show. It’s great that the supporters are going to turn up in numbers. It’ll be nice for them to see the lads at home for the final time this season.

“Of course we’ll try to put on a good performance. We’ll all give everything and leave it all out there.

“Hopefully it’s a good day, and it’ll be a good day anyway because we’re going to make it one. It’s going to be a celebration, we’ve achieved something this year. We want to make the most of the last two games.

“It’d be lovely to win (the title). Of course it would. That’s obvious. Everyone in football is competitive and we all want to win.

“We’ve been there for so long that it’d be great to see it off and to finish in that position. We’re there on goal difference at the minute and it’s so tight. Exeter have had a phenomenal run. Full credit and congratulations to them. It’s going to make for an interesting couple of games. Of course, we want to try to win it. Of course we do, but so will they.”
