WHAT THEY SAY

-

The excuses of Conservative ministers have been demolished by the boss of BP himself, who said a windfall tax wouldn’t damage investment in the UK. This one-off levy would raise billions of pounds that could help vulnerable families with their energy bills now. It is a no-brainer - Lib Dem leader Ed Davey.

We have a very strong commitment to investing in the UK, because we see the policies in the UK being very supportive of the sort of investments we would like to make. But I should also say that if you talk about these types of investment levels, they do require a stable and predictable financial outlook, it does require stability of policy and everything else - Shell boss Ben van Beurden told reporters that the company plans to invest between £20 billion and £25 billion in the UK in the next decade.

The Queen’s daily life is so full of responsibility and duty that it was wonderful to see this fleeting moment of relaxation and pleasure. It is an uplifting portrait, so different from many of the more sombre portraits commissioned in recent years and a befitting celebration for her Platinum Jubilee - Rob Munday whose relaxed 2004 photographic session test shot of the Queen has been unveiled to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

In some ways, you almost have to laugh because it’s so crazy. I mean, do I really want to track people? I spend billions on vaccines, I don’t make money on vaccines; vaccines save lives, they don’t cause deaths. So I’ve been out in public and some people yell at me that I’m tracking them, and that’s an awful thing - Bill Gates whose massive donations to Covid-19 research have made him a target of bizarre claims.
