Just look after our result, urges Swindon chief

BEN Garner insists he does not want to know about other matches this afternoon and will focus solely on Swindon Town getting three points at Walsall, writes Keith Watson.

The Wiltshire side currently occupy the final place in the Sky Bet League Two play-offs, but by 5pm today they could be automatically promoted, booked in for the play-offs, or their season could be over.

While Swindon could lose and still make the play-offs, anything less than a win could open the door for Sutton or Tranmere.

Alternatively, victory would secure their play-off spot, and three points coupled with capitulation from Northampton, Bristol Rovers, Port Vale and Mansfield could even see Garner’s men promoted alongside Exeter and Forest Green, although that is an unlikely scenario.

The head coach told his pre-match press conference: “I believed we could get in the play-offs after Easter Monday (Swindon have won three on the bounce since then), but I thought the automatics had gone. Even though the chance is slim, we just have to look after our own result.

“I don’t want to know the other scores, and the players just need to stay professional and do their jobs as it’s the only thing we can control.

“It’s been a good week, I look for red flags at times like this, but there haven’t been any. We’ve been able to give everyone what they need in terms of loading and training time.

“There’s a sense of excitement around, not many nerves. They’re looking forward to the game.”

On the 3,500 fans expected to travel today, Garner added: “It’s just fantastic, especially considering the majority of the tickets were bought before we got into this position.”
