It’s winner-takes-all for Chippenham

-

NOTHING less than a victory will do for Chippenham Town when they visit Havant & Waterlooville in the National League South this afternoon, writes Keith Watson.

The Bluebirds head into the final day of the regular season one point behind the Hawks, who are currently in possession of the last play-off position.

A draw is good enough for the Hampshire side, so victory, no matter how slim or scruffy it is, will be all that matters for Town, who are under the caretaker stewardship of Gary Horgan after previous boss Mike Cook left the club last month.

Chippenham and Havant both go into the game on the back of decent unbeaten runs, with the Bluebirds having won a dramatic game against Hungerford 3-2 on Bank Holiday Monday, while the Hawks drew 0-0 away to Hemel Hempstead.

Elsewhere in the southern area conference, Bath City are on arguably their best run of the season, and will look to make it four victories in a row to finish the season when play-off-bound Oxford City visit Twerton Park.

Like Bath, Gloucester City have spent the campaign fighting to stay out of the relegation zone, and they finish their National League North fixtures at home to Blyth Spartans this afternoon.

Hereford FC, meanwhile, visit champions Gateshead for their final match of the campaign.

Elsewhere, one of Kettering, Boston, Alfreton and Spennymoor will claim the final play-off spot, while either Farsley, Telford or Guiseley will go down.

The National League Premier does not finish until next week, with Yeovil hosting Boreham Wood today. Wood need a victory to maintain their slim hopes of reaching the play-offs, while the Glovers are down in mid-table.
