Renewable solutions need proper funding

-

WE are a G7 nation with more than our fair share of CO2 accumulated in the atmosphere. We have benefitted from our leadership in the industrial revolution without knowing its eventual impact and should show leadership in the green revolution to clean that up.

We have lithium here in the South West and could develop industries to provide the solutions we need in recycling and the like. Also, it is not only China that has the minerals required for renewable energy, but other countries such as Canada where they might welcome British investment and trade.

I will challenge people’s views if I think they are not well founded but I would not question their morality as they may have a different set of priorities or understanding of how things will play out. Net Zero is my top priority as not achieving it has such a massive impact.

I think this because I have studied the way the IPCC works and have good reason to trust their judgement. I think it represents the gold standard of openness and critical review and nobody has ever provided me with contrary evidence that stood up to scrutiny.

Given this, I think I have a sound moral basis for supporting renewables as one part of our solution to Net Zero because the undoubted challenges they bring have solutions if we are prepared to fund them. In contrast, the climate emergency has only one solution, Net Zero and although we need to do much else, I agree with the Climate Change Committee’s analysis that renewables need to be part of meeting our targets.
