Probe after pilot dies in airfield crash
A PILOT has died after the light aircraft he was flying crashed into the ground at an airfield.
Emergency services were called to Shobdon Airfield, in Leominster, Herefordshire, after the fixed wing light aircraft plummeted from the skies at 10am yesterday.
Despite the efforts of medics, the male pilot, aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch has now launched an investigation into the horror crash.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “We can advise that a man in his fifties has been confirmed dead following the plane crash this morning.
“No one else was on board, there were no other injuries and no other aircraft was involved.
“The Air Accidents
Investigation Branch will be investigating the causes of the crash.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival we discovered a fixed wing light aircraft that had come down at the airfield.
“There was one male patient still within the aircraft.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
