Key main road to shut for weekend for repairs
DELAYS are likely when the A37 closes for a weekend later this month.
The key Somerset A-road will shut at Pensford, forcing drivers to divert through Stanton Drew and neighbouring villages.
Bath and North East Somerset Council said the closure would begin at 7pm on Friday, September 16 and last over the weekend.
The earliest expected reopening date is Monday morning, September 19.
During the closure, B&NES will patch the road, repaint road lines and markings and coordinate with BT which is carrying out street works. The A37 will be closed from the Travellers Rest pub to the Pensford roundabout.
Manda Rigby, the council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “Resurfacing works like this are essential to repair damaged or deteriorating highways and keep our highway network at a high standard.
“We know this is a busy stretch of road so unfortunately there may be some delays to traffic.
“We’ll work hard to minimise the disruption and apologise for any inconvenience.”
Diversion routes for traffic will be in place and advanced notices have been positioned along the route to warn road users of the closure.
The council expects there to be higher-than-usual volumes of traffic passing through Stanton Drew while these resurfacing works take place and advises planning any journeys ahead of time to avoid delays.
